Thanks for nothing!
Here are my previous two Thanksgiving posts if you want to read those, here and here.
I feel it’s tradition to write a Thanksgiving post, but it ends up mostly looking like IG stories—everyone’s is the same. But yet, it doesn’t take away from how important the things that matter, like spending time with family. So much emphasis on family that it starts to sound like the last 5 Fast and Furious movies…
I believe it’s always a good idea to think in different ways, or at least inversion so you can get a new perspective, perhaps a fresh look at at something familiar.
Instead of what I’m grateful for, let’s start thinking about what I’m not grateful for. They always teach you to be grateful for everything, but we know that thinking in absolutes isn’t always the right answer.
Here’s a short list of things I’m not grateful for:
Playing silly games in the workplace in order for social gain or loss prevention.
people who change lanes without turning on their signals
Hypocrites
Friends that don’t celebrate other friend’s successes
I could probably go on and on for all of the things I’m not grateful for. I encourage everyone to do the same. Please be completely brutal because you need to see an objective view.
Once I have my list, I do my absolute best to never do these things or to not become a person who does these. I confessed that I used to be a person that did all of these things. I’m not proud of it but the good thing is there’s always a chance to change for the better.
You need to see that if you’re doing cruddy things, no one will be grateful for you, including yourself. I was fighting on most days to not revert back. It wasn’t until I saw how great life was when I made the switch to become the opposite of what I listed.
A thanks-for-nothing list became a guideline for how I don’t want to turn out. Every year, I add a little more and it’s a constant reminder of how easy it is to be that person no one is grateful for.
Make sure it’s not only turkey and gravy that enters your body, but also the necessary positive changes.
Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!
