My top 5 articles of 2021
Whether you’re on the “this year went by so quickly” or the “good riddance to this year”, for me it was a great year of discovering and exploring my love for writing. I’ve dramatically improved my writing and was able to develop the skill of breaking down topics to a level where I could understand them and put it down on this blog. Which were my goals for starting this blog: write better and understand what I’m writing better. Not the most specific goals, I know… But I got started and never looked back.
Here are my personal top 5 for 2021:
The advantage of having an advantage. This was one of my first articles written. I first realized the compounded advantage of having access to resources vs not having them, and how it affects so many other aspects of your life. It also has a memorable story about competing trees that I’ll always remember.
So you don’t have a mentor. This article came from the realization that chasing mentors shouldn’t be the only goal. There are many other ways to learn and get mentored, and sometimes you need to look inside.
Why we need to believe in others. This article came from listening to holocaust survivor, Viktor Frankl. To this day, I’m still surprised by the effects of believing in someone. They can achieve amazing things with just a little push.
The limitations we put on ourselves. This story was inspired by seeing a person put mental limitations on themselves at the gym. Often the person preventing your success is yourself.
Defensive listening. People don’t listen to understand as much as they should. Instead, it’s a brief waiting moment to refute and win the argument. It was one of the biggest lesson I had to learn this year.
