My top 5 articles for 2023
*Here are my top 5 articles for 2022 and 2021 if you’re interested*
Easily one of my favorite things to do each year—look back and see which articles made the biggest impact. Writing has changed my life and all of the lessons I’ve learned during writing have helped me not only think better but make better decisions as well.
There were articles I personally liked writing about because the topic was fun, but these 5 made the most impact on me. They’re lessons that still hold true and became a mental model for me. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
Here’s my top 5:
From myself to some of the smartest people I know fall into the trap of justifying their actions and thoughts. It’s worse when the reasoning is for the “greater good”. People have done this from the beginning of time and will continue to do so. An article I often re-read to remind myself that it’s so easy to do so I have to be diligent.
A Leopard doesn’t change its spots
I do believe in second chances, but not seeing the facts of a person who has revealed their cards is a foolish decision. That’s just who they are and as best as you try to deny it or believe differently, it won’t happen. They are who they are until they’ve shown consistent actions.
You only have a finite number left
This has become a constant reminder in my head—we only got so many cracks at things. Take risks, enjoy the good and the bad, and appreciate everything. Especially things we take for granted
You’re not as smart as you think you are
This article came from a big ego check and it was needed to humble myself. Once you think you’re better, you stop learning. Excessive arrogance gets “rewarded” every single time. The inverse is also true, you’re not as dumb as you think you are. Continue to strive and to persist.
This is something I’ve slowly developed over the years. Not only to get into trouble but also to let others teach me something. Trouble comes when I start yapping and don’t stay calm to assess the situation. Staying and still thinking is a skill that’s necessary to navigate a turbulent and unpredictable life.
Bonus: You need ego to be great: I’ve changed my mind about thinking ego is bad. It’s only when it’s excessive that it’s bad, but from talking to ambitious and successful people, it’s the ego that drives them to be great. Something that tells them to shut out all of the background noises and focus on what they believe in. The characteristic of persisting when everyone says otherwise is an admirable one. But do proceed with caution since ego can easily lead you to destructive paths.
Happy New Year everyone!
